Remember my last post about feeling stuck? We all get there sometimes, but the good news is, we can turn things around and spice up our lives without needing a whole pot of egusi soup!
In the last post, I wrote about rekindling passions, taking care of yourself, and exploring your surroundings. But what if you're still yearning for a dose of adventure without emptying your Agbada pockets? Here are some Naija-approved ways to keep the good vibes flowing; not something much, but you will find a lovely piece.
1. Be a Local Oga (or Madam) on a Budget:
Check out museums; there are many museums in Nigeria that you can visit, like the National Museum in Lagos, that have free entry on specific days. Check their websites or social media for details so that you can plan when to visit. https://momaa.org/directory/nigerian-national-museum/
You can be involved in some community gbedu. From Owambe parties to cultural festivals, there's always something happening in your area. Look for free events online or ask around for recommendations. Remember to always be on alert because you are gate-crashing somebody's party.
Give back to your community and discover new things by volunteering at NGOs or local charities. You might even meet some amazing people and make a real difference. You can volunteer with ProjectCHAM via instagram.com/projectcham/
2. Staycation Shenanigans:
Just as its name implies, plan a themed weekend, pick a fun theme like "Nollywood Night" or "Jollof Rice Challenge," or another that you can come up with and plan activities around it. Cook themed meals, traditional and continental🙂, watch classic movies, learn a few dance moves – get creative jurh.
Gather your squad, light a safe bonfire (please be mindful of the environment!), tell stories under the stars, and roast some delicious plantains, maybe sausages and meat, too. No fancy equipment is needed, just good company and good vibes. You can even use your gas and frying pan.
Plan a game night. Instead of the usual Monopoly, try traditional Nigerian games like Ludo or Whot. You'll have a blast learning something new and reminiscing about growing up.
3. Fuel Your Wanderlust Naija Style:
You can start a blog or vlog. Share your dreams, your travel dreams, and others, research interesting places within Nigeria, and showcase the beauty of our country. You might inspire others and learn about hidden gems you never knew existed.
You can also learn a local language within Nigeria or a foreign language; just ensure you know how to speak another language aside from your Mother's tongue or English. https://www.duolingo.com/ and https://www.tuteria.com/nigerian-languages/ to mention a few.
Another option is to pick a region you'd like to explore. It may be Nigerian and may be foreign. Learn about their customs and traditions for a complete cultural immersion – all from your own kitchen!
Remember, happiness is a journey, not a destination. By being proactive, creative, and open to new experiences, you can turn any situation into an adventure, even on a budget. Now, get out there and experience the joy of Naija life!
