New Language Saga

I have always been passionate about languages. We had a French teacher when I was in junior school at the secondary education level. I loved French so much that I consistently achieved high scores in my tests and exams. My teacher was exceptional at instilling a love for the language. We learned various things, including translating songs from English to French. We also used a textbook and workbook to read French texts and practise exercises.

I recently checked my report card and noticed that my French scores were consistently higher than my other subjects. In one term, I even scored 98 out of 100. However, when I moved to senior school, we didn't have a French teacher, so I lost the opportunity to practice. Nevertheless, I still remember quite a bit, such as:

  • Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Kate – My name is Kate
  • J'habite au Nigeria – I live in Nigeria
  • Je suis belle – I am beautiful
  • Je viens d'Ogun – I come from Ogun State

I can also sing the Nigerian national anthem and its pledge in French, along with a variety of other songs like "Johnbull my son," "On the Mountain, in the Valley," "Praise the Lord," and many more.

Fast forward to my freshman year at the University, a language academy came to my school, and I enrolled in German classes. By the end of the course, I was the second-best in my class. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue learning German due to the lack of continuous learning opportunities. However, I can share a few German words:

  • Ich glaube – I believe
  • Ich verstehe – I understand
  • Guten Tag – Good afternoon

I can also sing some German songs.

Currently, I am learning Spanish, which has been made easier with Duolingo. I can log in anytime to learn, and I can practice on social media. I have started following Spanish natives to engage with the language and culture. I also look forward to connecting with other people learning Spanish.

Gracias por leer – Thank you for reading.
